The McKenzie Lake Annual Family Day Weekend Crokicurl Tournament

The weather was good enough for us to enjoy a great tournament!

As this is an environmental committee event, we've been continually looking for ways of hosting the tournament without leaving a single trace behind (zero impact).

We think we found it this year, with the rings for the pads being ropes, routered just under the surface of the ice, then pulled out after the tournament.

Foodland in Bancroft and Harry Scott sponsored the event with prizes for top-placing teams.

The Lamarsh Legends took the top spot - way to go!

Thanks to everyone who played and watched, a special thanks to the Howrans and Flinders for bringing the fire and cooking! We raised $635 for the environmental committee.

What a great day with great weather! A special thanks to the Hideaways for the fire and hot dogs - totally awesome! This tournament was a "double" round robin as everyone wanted to play around twice! This resulted in an initia tie for first place between The Mergansers and Team Schevers! The tie breaker took two games before the tie was broken to crown Team Schevers the 1st place champions!

• 1st place (10 Wins) - Team Schevers - winning a $75 gift mastercard which they donated to the Environmental Committee! - thank you so much!
• 2nd place (9 Wins) - The Mergansers - winning a $50 gift mastercard which was donated to the Environmental Committee! - thank you!
• 3rd place (7 Wins)- Team 1414 - "The Welsch Warriors" winning a $25 gift Mastercard!

  (3 Wins) - LaMarsh Legends - who also win the team with most spirit!

  A special thanks to everyone who helped with the day and preparations.

  The tournament raised $535 for the Environmental Committee!There were a total of 22 players and several spectators!

2022 Crokicurl Tournament & Fundraiser Results

Thanks to everyone for a great tournament! The tournament this year was held in probably the windiest day we could have had yet all the faces were still smiling and playing!

It was also the toughest year to keep ice conditions leading up to and during the tournament. It was an amazing sequence of weather events; the frozen snow lake, then the water soaked swimming pool, to a final deep cold freeze a few days before. That allowed us to flood and set the pads just in time for Sunday morning. A speical thanks goes out to Nadiya, Nathan, Nina and Nik who came to help get the ice and pads ready for play. Special thanks goes out to Jill Bartley, photographer of the event captured great moments, all of us together and will help us remember that day in the history books!

Jill not only attended and took photos, but included a very generous $200 donation to the water fund! Another very special thanks to the anonymous donation of $100 found on the tournament board at the end of the day!

We had 6 teams enter the round robin tournament where each team had a chance to play every other team. There were two pads, where games and starting points were randomized to help eliminate the ice conditions as factors in our winners.  This years scoring to determine winners used two methods: For overall winners the total number of wins were counted. This highest number of wins (4) went to only one team so they took first place. Second place had a tie by two teams for a total of 3 wins each. To break the tie, we subtraced the total number of losses away from the score (or looked at who had fewer losses). This separeted the second place finishes allow us not to require any more matches played by the teams.  For the complete scores and winners details, see below.  Total funds raised by the tournament, including all entry fees is a total of $575 towards our upcoming water testing and reporting this fall.
